The Scorpion Deluxe is a highly adaptive preamp and overdrive pedal designed specifically with bassists in mind. Perfect for live performances and studio recording, you can use the Scorpion Deluxe to send a balanced signal to the mixer and the mono output to an amp simultaneously. This all analog pedal has no latency and huge headroom. You can EQ your signal to taste, add in some overdrive when needed, and round out your signal with the bass cab sim for a well balanced preamp that any bassist can appreciate.
The Scorpion overdrive circuit stands out by implementing a resonant feedback circuit, allowing the dynamics and punch of your clean signal to come through without the need for a clean blend. Unlike most overdrives that offer a baked-in signature tone, the Scorpion can be transparent or transformative. The foot switch activates the overdrive circuit, allowing you to dial in the harmonics, depth, and volume for a cutting drive. Switch off the overdrive for a clean tone while retaining your EQ and cab sim settings.
The active EQ includes shelving bass and treble controls, and a semi parametric mid control with variable frequency. The bass control is +/-15 dB at 80 Hz, the treble control is +/- 15 dB at 3 kHz, and the mid control is +/- 15 dB with a variable frequency range of 200 Hz to 2 kHz.
The Depth knob gives complete control of the low frequency clipping, ranging from a lean, grindy tone, all the way to a full on bass distortion. Increasing the Depth knob allows more lows to be clipped, making the signal thicker and heavier. For a cleaner low end, keep the depth low and boost the bass EQ as needed.
The cab sim is based on modern bass cabs that are tuned in the low 50 Hz range, and have a roll-off of the highs just before 5 kHz. The cab sim has a subtle low end resonance that levels out into the low mids. This gives a nice punchy, clear tone without any muddiness and without the clanky highs. When the cab sim switch is to the left, the cab sim is off. In the middle position, the cab sim is only applied to the Direct balanced output. When the switch is to the right, the cab sim is applied to both outputs.
The pedal requires an external DC power supply (not included). The DC supply should be a standard Boss style connector, center negative polarity. It can accept 9 to 24 volts. Although 9 volts is sufficient for most applications, higher voltages will provide more headroom when using the pedal with hotter signals. The current draw is approximately 10 mA. A 24 volt power supply may be purchased separately.
