The Mini Fridge is an all analog speaker cabinet simulator, providing both a balanced and unbalanced output. Replicating the mighty SVT 810, this cab sim ensures you have a powerful bass tone for your sound engineer to use. Feed it with your favorite pedals and preamps and have the confidence that your tone will remain consistent for every gig without having to bother with amplifiers and microphones.
The Mini Fridge accepts active or passive mono signals. It is designed for use with bass guitar, but could easily work well with other electronic instruments that need a cab sim, such as upright bass, electric or acoustic guitar, or keys. The input impedance is 1MΩ.
The cab sim emulates the frequency response of the SVT 810, which has a clean and powerful low end, clear and present mids, and a sweet top end that rolls off gracefully. This EQ profile handles distortion effects very well. The signal is phase coherent and the same signal level as the input. Because the Mini Fridge is all analog, there is no signal latency. The mono output can be switched between the cab sim effect or a direct dry output.
The balanced out signal can feed long XLR cable lengths to a mixing board, or used for short runs in the studio. The cab sim is always applied to the balanced output. The balanced output signal is not attenuated, so the mixing board input should be set to 0 dB of gain initially, and then increase as needed. If the sound person is expecting a passive DI signal, the signal will be too hot.
The Mini Fridge does not include a power supply. It can be powered by a 9V battery, an external center negative 9V DC supply, or by phantom power. The ground lift switch must be pressed in (connected) to enable phantom power. If using an external DC supply, ensure it does not exceed 9V, and that it is a standard Boss style barrel connector. The current draw is 5 mA.
Using an external DC power supply will disengage the battery, so you can leave a battery installed as a backup. Removing the instrument cable at the input of the Mini Fridge also disengages the battery.
With no knobs or controls on the face of the device, it is possible to fit the Mini Fridge underneath some pedal boards. The height of the Mini Fridge (before applying velcro) is 1.56 inches, or 40mm.
