The Mastering Equalizer is a tribute to the vintage Pultec PEQ-1A. This pedal employs a Cinemag tapped inductor using the original Pultec specs to perfectly capture the frequency response of the PEQ-1A.

The input of the Mastering Equalizer uses a low noise Burr Brown dual op amp to drive the passive circuitry, and to faithfully retain your signal with minimal noise and distortion. The make up gain section at the output uses the second half of the op amp, trimmed to provide unity gain when all EQ is set to neutral. The output op amp drives an output transformer to galvanically isolate your signal from all previous circuitry.

The Mastering EQ is split into three independent sections:

  • The bass section can boost and cut at the selected frequency up to 16 dB
  • The treble boost section can boost the selected frequency up to 16 dB, with control over how wide of a bandwidth is covered
  • The treble cut section is a shelving cut at the selected frequency

The Mastering Equalizer requires a DC power supply (not included). The DC supply should be a standard Boss style connector, center negative polarity. It can accept 9 to 24 volts. Although 9 volts is sufficient for most applications, higher voltages will provide more headroom when using the pedal with hotter signals. If you intend to use this pedal with line level signals, you should use at least 12 volts for sufficient headroom. The current draw is approximately 10 mA. A 24 volt power supply may be purchased separately.

The Mastering Equalizer has a true bypass switch.
